The Terry M Experience

Last night my boyfriend and I were lucky enough to go for dinner at Terry M.

Terry M is a 3 AA Rosette fine dining restaurant situated within the Celtic Manor Resort, and is something truly special that can be experienced by guests and non-residents alike.

Upon arrival you can enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail and canapés in their very own private lounge, or if the weather is being kind head out to the rooftop terrace and savour the last balmy evenings of summer in a relaxed, understated atmosphere.

There are two menu options to choose from for dinner, a 3 course à la carte menu, or a 6 course tasting menu. Something I’d highly recommend for couples or groups looking for a truly unforgettable evening! During this visit my partner and I decided to go for the three course à la carte menu as we didn’t feel like we could quite take on the challenge of six courses menu just yet. We thought we’d save that for our next visit.

All of Terry M’s intricate and seasonal dishes have been lovingly created by Head Chef Tim McDougall. Quality is key when sourcing fresh produce as well as keeping with the Best of British feel.

I went for the Pressed Duck Liver, with Port Wine, Medjool Dates, and homemade Toasted Brioche to start which was heavenly, and my partner went for the Wild Sea Bass, with Old Winchester Cheese Sauce, Open Ravioli of Leeks and Romanesco. Which he said was incredible also.

For our mains we chose the Fillet of Welsh Beef, Braised Flat Rib, Milk and Butter Mash, Bone Marrow and Morel Jus, with Cavolo Nero and the Best End of Welsh Spring Lamb, Sautéed Offal, Tamarind Chutney, Chickpea Wafer, and Cottage Cheese. These dishes were generous portions for a fine dining restaurant and they left us feeling more than satisfied.

Lastly for dessert I chose the Buttered Cherries, Cocoa and Avocado Crème, Pistachio Sponge, with Cream Cheese Ice Cream. The combination of flavours and textures in this dish were so indulgent I couldn’t get enough! My partner decided on the Chocolate Fondant Mousse, with Basil and White Chocolate Ice Cream which would have been my second choice if I could have had the two.

The service we received at Terry M was friendly, welcoming and attentive. Staff are more than happy to recommend their favourite dishes, or what wine would best accompany your choice.

Terry M has all the trimmings and extras you would expect from a fine dining restaurant, but with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

I honestly believe that sharing a fabulous meal and great wine is one of life’s little pleasures, and I can assure you that Terry M will create an experience you won’t forget leaving you with memories long after dessert has been served.

Are there any other fine dining venues you think I should try? xoxo

Rimmel Dare To Bare

When I heard that Rimmel were launching a Nude collection I was instantly excited and knew I that this was a band wagon I had to hop on!

When I finally got the chance to have a look, dare I say it, I was a little disappointed. I found the collection on the whole a little too warm for my skin tone.

I did however pick up one of the Lasting Finish Lipsticks in No.45. This is one of two shades Rimmel suggested is better suited to cool skin tones, and it's a beautiful pale rosy nude shade.
I must admit, I am very impressed with this lipstick. The texture is smooth, buttery and it has a fab opaque finish. At £5.49 it's a fab find and my top pick from the collection.

L - R: Lasting Finish Lipsticks in No.42,
Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob (Natural light, no flash)

The nail polishes however didn't deliver as strong for us cool toned girls. I was desperate to find a cool version of their shade Bare Yourself as I found it just too peachy for me.

As I left the Rimmel counter and began to mooch around the other counters, I was stopped by a nail polish on the Seventeen stand. It was one of their Gel Colour polishes in the shade Irish Coffee.

Now this is what I was desperately looking for from the Rimmel collection! This is the most gorgeous pale milky pink, with a hint of a grey undertone to it - Perfect for cool skin tones

I think if Rimmel had included a shade like this they would have covered all bases.

Nude Lipsticks and Nail Polishes are by far my go to shades, and I'm always on the look out for new ones to add to my ever expanding collection.

Let me know what your favourites are from the Dare To Bare collection... xoxo

My Week On Instagram

I'll put my hands up and admit I love social media. It's become a bit of a morning ritual of mine that I wake up and check all my social media timelines before I even venture out of bed, and I don't believe I'm alone in this habit.
Instagram is by far my favourite social media outlet, I'd probably go as far to say that I'm addicted... Ooops

So, to feed my addiction further I thought I'd share with you lovely people the best bits from my last week on Instagram. If you don't already follow my daily updates, I'd love you to check me out on LippyInTheCity... Enjoy <3

Current Top 3 Favourite Lipsticks

I'll start off by saying I love lipsticks, I love lip glosses too, let's be honest I really love lip products on the whole, and usually have at least 3 on rotation in my make up bag.

My current favourites that I have been gravitating towards are...

This is the cheapest of the 3 at only £7.99 at Boots. This lipstick to me is the wearable version of the 'Kylie Jenner' lip that has been on everyone lately, a nude-y, rosy, brown-y shade. It has a buttery creamy texture with a crème to soft matte finish. Its got a very opaque formula which is also fab and I don't feel like I need to wear a lip liner with this either. Out of the 3, I wear this one to work the most as it's a 'my lips but better' look whilst also looking like you've made an effort. Definitely a make up bag staple.

Now I love this latest formula of liquid lipstick that Boujois have brought out, but from reading other Beauty Blogs they don't seem to be everyone's cup of tea, and that's ok. I've only tried the one shade so far, 04, a rich raspberry red but I've got to say I love it. It honestly feels like water on your lips when you first apply it. It's glossy but not sticky at all and gives a lovely wash of colour. I find it really hard to wear red lips and have to be in the mood to feel confident enough to pull it off, but this I could wear all day long. I don't find them to hydrate for 10 hours like they claim, but I don't find them drying either. At £8.99 from Boots I think they are fantastic value as they feel like a higher end product than they are.

This is my most expensive of the 3 at £15.50 but hands down this is my favourite lipstick of all time!
This is the most perfect neutral rosy shade and it has a slight golden sheen running through it giving it a lustre finish. I also think it's great that the full RRP (less VAT) from the sale of all MAC Viva Glam lipsticks and lip glasses are paid towards the MAC Aids Fund (registered UK charity number 1147222) which  goes towards helping women, men and kids everywhere affected by HIV and AIDS.

Make up Bag Favourites Of The Week #1

I love reading Monthly Favourites posts but would love to know what products women actually use and have in their make up bags on a weekly basis, things they genuinely reach for daily.

So I'm going to start sharing with you beautiful people what I actually use on a day to day basis and what have been my favourites from the previous week. Now some of these posts could get repetitive so I'll keep my thoughts and opinions brief where I can - Hope you enjoy :)

This weeks go too's...

L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes, So Couture
This is my latest mascara obsession and I love it! It has a plastic wand very similar to MaxFactors False Lash Effect but slimmer. making it much easier to capture those little inner corner and bottom lashes. The formula is silky smooth and has yet to clump on me. Even my boyfriend commented on how long this made my lashes. I have a feeling that this is one of those mascaras that will get better with time too as it dries out a little.

Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer & Highlighter
I have been using this religiously under my eyes since I bought it about a month ago. This is a total dupe for YSL Touche Éclat but dare I say it, better! This provides more coverage than the Touche Éclat as that is predominately a highlighter but it definitely brightens as much, and with the added coverage what's not to love? Plus with a £5.99 average price tag I highly recommend giving this a go.

George The Tamer 2 in 1 Lash Definer & Brow Tamer
Brow setting gels are a must have for me, and one of the only products I can't leave the house without putting on. George have recently released there own version and I have to say it's fab! It sets my brows all day without leaving them crispy. Something I will be re purchasing when the time comes.

Real Techniques Setting Brush
This brush is my partner in crime to the Match Perfection Concealer & Highlighter. This blends under eye concealer out like a dream and had to be purchased after Vivianna Does Makeup recommended it. It's also really great at applying powder to set your under eye concealer as well as applying highlighter to the tops of your cheek bones. Love Love Love!

The Bodyshop Honey Bronzing Powder in shade 02 Fair Matte
If your fair skinned like me and you struggle to find a bronzer that doesn't make you look orange or grey then look no further, I have discovered the answer! The Bodyshop have brought out a range of bronzers this Summer suitable for the fairest of us. I picked on up in the shade 02 Fair Matte which is the second to lightest and works beautifully on me, I'm normally NW13. Again I have been using this religiously since I bought it and have found nothing else that compares to the shade, texture or finish. I just might need to buy a back up of this because I have a feeling they won't be around for long!

So, that's my weeks round up - I'd love to know what you've all been reaching for lately xoxo

A Little Treat...

So, last Wednesday my boyfriend and I had a rare day off together, so what did we decide to do?
Go shopping of course!

Now he's incredibly tolerant of my 'Beauty Habit' and very patiently waited as I whizzed around MAC like a little kid in a candy store, or a bull in a china shop... Depending on your opinion.

And this trip I have to say I was very restrained, and I only picked up the one item.

I picked up one of MAC's new Extra Dimension Eye Shadows in Stolen Moment

MAC Claims 'In Extra Dimension Eye Shadow, M·A·C’s modern hybrid formula that combines the smoothness of a cream, the blendability of a liquid and the finish of a powder with long-wearing colour and prismatic reflections. Its creamy, silky, near-fluid formula creates luminous, well-defined eyes in finishes from sheer crystallized light to stunning metallic.'

I was drawn to this one because I love eye shadows that can be worn all over the lid, blended at the edges, then your good to go. I have frequently worn this to work the past week and I find it not too heavy or too smoky for the day time. I've also found that the mauve undertones have really brought out the green in my eyes. All you'd need to amp it up for a night out is to add some dark winged liner, smudge the shadow into your bottom lash line and add a couple of coats of mascara.
Instant Glam for minimal effort = My kind of make up!

I have to say I've really enjoyed wearing this this week and I think it will become a staple in my make up bag, if anyone can recommend any more one lid wonder eye shadows or any other colours from this range please let me know!

ESPA Facial Experience

Hey guys, I know, I know, long time no blog... But fear not, I'm back, and ready to get back on the #Blogging Band waggon.

Today I wanted to share with you a facial experience that I got treated to at The Village Hotel's Viva Urban Spa in Cardiff, the ESPA 55 minute facial which currently retails for £46.

Upon arrival I got checked in quickly and was asked to fill out a short consultation form. I then got shown through to a snug relaxation area where I was told I could help myself to Fruit and Herbal Tea's whilst I waited.

(Please excuse my Mum and the picture quality, my camera wasn't loving the mood lighting...)

As soon as I sat myself down I was greeted by my Therapist Hannah, who was ready to show me through to my treatment room. We started off by discussing my skin type and needs (FYI I'm combination oily with a small amount of congestion around my t-zone) and if I had any concerns or areas that I wanted to address.
Hannah left me briefly so I could get myself comfortable on the couch. When she came back in, she added a bolster cushion under my knees to ease the pressure whilst I was lying on my back which I thought was a nice touch.

Whilst I was trying my best to relax (something that doesn't come naturally to me) I noticed that the treatment room was decorated in a deep purple shade and had soft lighting; there were faux candles dotted behind the ESPA products that gave off a gorgeous glow and left a tranquil feel.

Hannah started off my facial by removing my eye and lip makeup with the ESPA Bio-Active Eye Cleanser and pre cleansing my face with the ESPA Balancing Foam Cleanser. She then had a closer look at my skin with their 'Skin Vision' lamp. This gave her a better look at the condition of my skin and how to treat it going forward.

This was followed by an invigorating exfoliating scrub with the ESPA Refining Skin Polish which I have to say has been one of the nicest scrubs I've ever had. It was gritty enough without being scratchy. Something I'd definitely look to purchase for at home at a later date.

(Side note: During each step of my facial Hannah covered my face, neck and upper chest area.)

The scrub was removed with warm towels then I had the ESPA's Balancing Face Treatment Oil massaged in. This was by far my favourite part as this also included a small head and scalp massage too! #Heaven

The remaining oil was removed, again with the warms towels and I had the Essential Cleansing Mask applied. I was feeling incredibly relaxed by this point so I don't remember if this was removed or not but I'm guessing it was...

To wrap it up, I had the ESPA Balancing Herbal Spafresh applied all over with a cotton pad to refresh my skin and remove any last traces of mask or massage oil. The last product to be applied was the ESPA 24 hour Balancing Moisturiser to leave my skin gently hydrated without feeling greasy.

Hannah then left me to come round as she brought me a glass of water. Once I'd 'regained consciousness' from my completely relaxed state I made my way back to the relaxation area. I was advised to not wear make up for 24 hours as it give my skin the chance to absorb any products undisturbed.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my ESPA facial and believe that the Viva Urban Spa's little touches to the treatment really made it stand out, and I will definitely be treating myself to another next month!
xoxo
