Something About Sundays...

There's something about Sundays that call for lie-in's, coffee in bed, staying in your pj's until noon and going out for a lazy lunch or dinner. To me, this is the perfect Sunday, call me boring, but I firmly believe that Sundays should be spent doing whatever your heart tells you too.

This past weekend my boyfriend Garrad and I had a busier Sunday than usual, but we decided to round it off with an early dinner before we crashed out on the sofa in front of a movie. We were out in Cardiff and because the weather was so nice we decided to head down to the bay and to one of my favourite spots, Bill's.

'Bill’s Cardiff Bay restaurant is in the historic Pilotage Building. Light and airy during the day, warm and cosy at night, it’s a lovely space for breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between.'  - Bill's

Garrad and I love the relaxed yet intimate atmosphere that Bill's provides. The restaurant has gorgeous views overlooking the waterfront and is the perfect spot to do some people watching. I could happily spend all day cwtched up there with countless cups of coffee watching the world go by.

This Sunday however we were both starving, so food was our top priority! We started with some tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa. These tortilla triangles were light and flakey and a great appetiser whilst we were browsing the menu.

I probably could have munched my way through the entire menu but instead I settled on the 'Mojo Chicken Skewers'. These came on a bed of cous cous with a warm piadina bread (similar to a tortilla wrap) and a bowl of tzatziki for dipping. The chicken had been lightly marinated and was tasty, not spicy. The whole dish was light but satisfying and just what I was craving. I would definitely order this again.

Garrad went for the buttermilk chicken burger with streaky bacon and cheese that came with a side of sweet potato fries. I didn't try it but Garrad said he'd highly recommend it.

We also couldn't resist ordering a side of Bill's Mac and Cheese. This was absolutely gorgeous! Very indulgent and probably a million calories, but it was 1000% worth it.

Now pudding is a subject that I find hard to resist. And when I saw the word doughnut on the menu, I was there!
Bill's serve mini cinnamon doughnuts, fresh out of the fryer with strawberries and a side of chocolate dipping sauce. The doughnuts were still warm when they arrived and we were quick to drown them in the indulgent chocolate sauce.

The doughnuts were light and fluffy, with a gorgeously crispy outer. They had been sprinkled with cinnamon sugar that added a delicious texture, For me, these were the highlight of our meal.

If you're yet to discover Bill's, Garrad and I would thoroughly recommend it as a Sunday chill out spot. They also do a fabulous brunch menu!

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I'd love to know your favourite Sunday spots... xoxo

The Five Minute Face

As women I'd say we all have mornings where we crave an extra five minutes in bed instead of spending it in front of the mirror doing our hair or makeup. Those days have been coming around a little more frequently lately as I've been really struggling to get out of bed in the morning. I think this has been down to a mixture of not sleeping the best and putting in more hours at the office.

So, to enjoy those few extra minutes cwtched up in bed without worrying that I'll stroll into work looking like a mess, I have perfected my five minute face with a few makeup bag staples.

To start with I mix a small amount of my Seventeen Skin WOW Primer (£5.99) with my MaxFactor Lasting Performance Foundation in shade 100 Fair (£9.99). This combination leaves your skin looking dewy whilst being incredibly long lasting. I apply this with my fantastic new Kabuki Brush (99p) that I bought after seeing Fee at Makeup Savvy talk about it (#bbloggersmademedoit...). I love kabuki brushes for applying foundation and this blends my foundation out in super quick time. The bristles are soft, short and really dense which leaves your skin with a perfect airbrushed finish. Plus at 99p it's the bargain of the century!

Next I fill in my brows with the Virgin Vie eye definer pencil in Walnut Whip. This has unfortunately been discontinued and I'm gutted because the texture and shade are perfect. If anyone has any good eyebrow pencil recommendations I'd love you to leave them in the comments below. I like a cool toned brown eyebrow pencil best with a waxy texture to help my brows stay in place all day.

After filling in my brows I move on to my eyes. When applying my makeup, I apply my foundation first, then I work from the top of my face down. Does anyone else apply their makeup this way?

On a typical work day I don't wear eyeshadow to the office, I prefer to wear just mascara and eyeliner. Lately I've been using H&M's Eye Colour To-Go in Treasure Hunt (£3.99). These eye crayons are buttery, affordable and oh so pigmented. I'm in love with this olive green shade as I find it so much more flattering than black under my eyes. For mascara, I've been gravitating back to my Diorshow New Look mascara (£25.00). I reviewed this back in October and lately I haven't been able to stop wearing it. My lashes are quite short atmo too and the little brush works wonders for defining and volumizing them for me.

Lately I have been wearing H&M's Powder Blusher in Cameo Pink (£6.99) when I haven't got time to apply blusher, bronzer and highlighter. Somehow this does everything that your cheeks need in one. The formula is soft and pigmented, and it blends out evenly. I would describe the shade a neutral pink with a slight nude undertone. I have been applying it with my Nars Kabuki Artisan Yachiyo brush dupe that was another Makeup Savvy recommendation. At 99p instead of the original £43 I would say this was a find and a half!

Lastly I have been wearing the Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencil in shade 630 Nude Perfection (£4.00) with Nars Orgasm Lip Gloss (£19.00) on top. I have always loved this combination as I find it to be the perfect warm nude lip. It looks professional whilst still looking like you've made an effort.

I manage to complete this whole routine in around five minutes before dashing out the door, grabbing a croissant on the way. This look makes me feel fresh and put together even if I'm not 100% feeling it inside.

I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend, I'd love to know what makeup makes your feel confident when your in a hurry? xoxo
