My Current Go-To Combination

I love discovering new and unique lip combinations. I don't feel like my makeup is complete until I’ve topped my lipstick with a sweep of lip gloss. My current go-to lip combination is Maybelline Colour Sensational Lipstick in 715 Choco Cream topped with YSL Gloss Volupte in shade No.2. These two together are just gorgeous!

Maybelline's Colour Sensational Lipstick in 715 Choco Cream is one of my all time favourite creme finish lipsticks. It's the perfect peachy, nude shade that's super moisturising, plus its opaque formula is a doddle to apply.

I love to top it off with YSL Gloss Volupte in shade No.2. This is a lip gloss that I'd longed for for ages. At £22 it's on the pricier side, but its oh so worth it. Like the Maybelline lipstick, this lip gloss comes from the same peachy, nude family but with the addition of the finest gold particles. It's simply stunning. It has a slick, non-sticky formula and I can promise you, you don't feel the glitter on your lips at all.

I'll definitely be reaching for this combination for a few more weeks until Fall really sets in, then it'll be all about the berry colours...

What lip combination have you been wearing lately?? xoxo

Healthy Mind, Healthy Body: An Introduction...

Lately I have found myself wanting to write about more in-depth matters than my usual beauty themed reviews. This was encouraged after I received an amazing response from my 'Women who buy their own Louboutins' post that I published in early July. I was so chuffed because this was a post that I had doubted I would even publish.

As much as I love writing my more personal thoughts down, I'm sometimes afraid of the response so I think better than to hit publish for the big wide world to read. However, we are all entitled to our own opinion, and I've decided that I will share mine more often with you gorgeous people. I really hope you enjoy it...

*
Healthy Mind, Healthy Body was originally inspired by the gorgeous Lorraine from The Current Custom who I have watched on YouTube for years. Following the birth of her two young boys she decided to embark on Operation Get Sexy where each week she makes small changes, that over time will add up to noticeable differences. I found this to be such a refreshing outlook from the instant gratification culture that we live in. By making small, manageable changes over time, you're more likely to make them a habit, instead of trying to achieve something unobtainable in a short, unrealistic time frame.

Healthy Mind, Healthy Body is going to document my journey not only to a healthier body, but also to a healthier outlook on life too. I feel like the two go hand in hand, and we can't really have one without the other. By documenting small weekly changes, I hope I'll be able to look back over time and notice a real difference in myself.

I have no issues with sharing my fitness and body journey, at 145lbs I am currently the heaviest I've ever been. This is down to a mixture of over indulging, not exercising enough and working 9-5 in a sedentary office environment. This is not a weight I feel ashamed of, it's just a weight that I don't feel as comfortable in as I'd like to. At my lightest I was 118lbs, and that was around two years ago. I maintained this weight through a mixture of stress, hardly eating and being in an unhealthy relationship. Not an ideal place to be. My goal weight is 128lbs (9st 2lbs) which means I have 17lbs to lose. This may seem like a lot to some of you, and only a little to others. Please remember each to their own. I would like to lose this weight by March as my boyfriend and I are off to Cuba and I would like to feel more confident in a bikini than I do right now. I'm not rushing myself, and I'm certainly not pressurizing myself. If it doesn't happen, I know I'll have a fab time regardless.

On to the healthy mind aspect. This is a topic I'll struggle with sharing but its the aspect that I hope people will find the most useful. I have lived with anxiety and depression for many years. Only my very close circle understand to the extent in which I struggle, so sharing it on my blog is a huge thing for me. I often find myself having to 'put on a face' whether that be at work, out with friends, or at a social gathering as there is still so much stigma surrounding mental health issues even in the 21st century. My anxiety and depression ebbs and flows and some days I feel like I can conquer the world, whilst other days I wonder why I'm even on it. It can be incredibly debilitating and unless you've suffered with it yourself, people can find it very hard to relate to. I've tried many things over the years but nothing has seemed to erase it completely. The optimist in me lives in hope though so I'm hoping that adopting a healthy lifestyle will not only benefit my body, but my mind and thoughts too.

I have started my journey by joining a local gym, yes a real life actual gym! If you know me well, you will know that this is definitely out of my comfort zone but I have been going for the past two weeks and so far I've been really enjoying it. I'm not quite a Gym Bunny yet though lol. I still feel like the gym newbie but I'm feeling really good so I will keep you updated on my progress. I have also been trying to increase my water intake because let's face it, everybody should! Lastly I have been encouraging myself to make more lists. This one may sound silly but I find that writing everything down frees up 'space' in my head and eases my anxiety. If negativity or worries are floating around in my head I focus in on it too much and it becomes a detrimental spiral of thinking. By making lists and prioritizing I can think more clearly and focus on what really matters. I'm hoping these small changes will help kick start me in the right direction.

Please feel free to leave your tips and inspiration for leading a healthier, happier life in the comments below. I'd love you to come on this journey with me. I will be continuing to publish my usual weekly beauty posts, but I hope you enjoy this additional side to Lippy In The City too. Speak soon xoxo

Face of the Day: Office Edition

I wear makeup to work every day. I always have, and probably always will. Makeup definitely makes me feel more confident and able to face the day, that's just my personal philosophy.

My usual office makeup routine takes me about 10 minutes to do in the morning. I don't like to reapply my make-up whilst I'm at work other than maybe a quick swipe of lipstick, so I prefer using long-lasting products wherever possible.

I mix up my look on an almost weekly basis depending on my mood, weather or daily commitments but as we're heading into Autumn, these are some of the products that I've been reaching for on an average day...

I start by applying Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Lightweight Primer across my t-zone to give me a smooth base under my foundation. I really like the gel-like consistency of this primer and the way it blends into the skin effortlessly. Because it's clear, sometimes it's hard to keep track of where you've applied it though.

For foundation I've been sticking with my trusty Clarins Extra Comfort in shade 103 Ivory... Yep, I'm currently looking like Casper... I love this foundation for work as it's so easy to apply, the colour match is great, and it comfortably lasts all day. I will always have a jar of this in my foundation collection.

Next I apply a tiny amount of Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer under and around my eyes. I use shade Light Warm. This concealer has fantastic coverage and is super light weight. I typically set my concealer with a little of the Vichy Dermablend Setting Powder. This powder is super finely milled, it's a dream to apply! If you haven't tried this yet, you need to.

I have fallen back in love with liquid eyeliner lately and I have been reaching for H&M's Dipliner daily. I love the felt brush as I find it makes it so quick to apply and creates a fab wing effortlessly. It's staying power isn't the greatest but it does have a gorgeous deep black pigment to it. Aside from eyeliner, I always apply a couple of coats of mascara which is usually Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara. I prefer to keep my eye look simple, and classic when I'm at work, I think it promotes a professional image which is the look I'm always going for.

Next I apply a quick sweep of essence cosmetics blush bronzer to bring a bit of life back into my face. This dual blusher and bronzer works really well at lifting, and brightening your features when you're in a hurry in the morning and haven't got time to go full Kim K with the contouring.

Lastly, I apply a sweep of lipstick or lip-gloss. I prefer a deeper colour on a daily basis as I feel more confident wearing a darker colour. To me, a darker lip means business. I know India (The Jewel Beauty) will definitely agree with me on this one! My go-to's are Make Up Revolution in Not Perfection Yet and Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipstick in Grand Cru. I always apply these with a lip brush as I find it gives me a softer yet more precise finish.

What products have you been reaching for whilst heading out to work?? xoxo

TAG: Would You Rather? The Beauty Edition

I love reading TAG posts, and I love answering them even more! When I came across this 'Would you rather?' Beauty Edition TAG I knew I had to give it a go...

Would you rather go out with messy hair and nice makeup or nice hair and no makeup?
100% messy hair and nice makeup. TBH I struggle with my hair on a daily basis so having a bad hair day is no biggy for me, but having no makeup on and nice hair is something I would definitely struggle with.

Would you rather shave your eyebrows or have your eyelashes fall out?
I would rather shave my eyebrows as luckily I'm quite good at drawing them back in lol -  Having my eyelashes fall out would just be awful.

Would you rather be forced to shop at only MAC or Sephora for the rest of your life?
Unfortunately we don't have Sephora in the UK other than online so I'm going to have to say I'd rather shop in MAC for the rest of my life, but that's not a bad thing!

Would you rather wear lip-gloss/lip liner look or 80’s perm?
Hmmm... This is a hard one. I'd probably rather rock at 80's perm as I'm personally not a fan of the whole lip-gloss/lip liner look. Each to their own though.

Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or overdone blush?
I'd rather have overdone blush as I can pretend I've been running or something... Haha! People who know me well would see right through this in an instant!

Would you rather wear MC Hammer pants or biker shorts in public?
Definitely MC Hammer pants as a camel toe doesn't look hawt on anyone

Would you rather have a bad orange-y spray tan or really weird tan lines that can’t be covered?
I'd have to go with a bad orange-y spray tan as I think like the blusher question, I could rock the Oompah-Lopmah look for a few days.

Would you rather have a bad haircut or bad hair colour?
Bad hair colour as I can dye it back pretty quickly, but a bad hair cut could take forever to grow back.

Would you rather have YouTube or Instagram taken away forever?
I could live without Instagram for sure, but I really couldn't live without YouTube. I love how you kind find a tutorial on pretty much anything, ever. It's by far the best research website in the world besides Google.

Would you rather give up using makeup brushes or mascara?
I think I'd give up makeup brushes as mascara is the one item I can't leave the house without putting on. I hate applying makeup with my fingers but I could get used to it if I had too.

Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?
I could live without nail polish. I do wear nail polish daily and I always feel more put together when my nails are done but giving up make up would be too tough.

Would you rather wear Winter clothes in Summer or Summer clothes in Winter?
I happily wear Winter clothes in Summer as I always feel the cold so this one is easy for me.

Would you rather only use one eye shadow colour or one lip colour for the rest of your life?
I'd rather use one eye shadow colour for the rest of my life as I feel different lip colours can change your look up so much more than eye shadow colours alone. FYI I would choose to wear Satin Taupe for the rest of my life...

Would you rather chop all of your hair off or never be able to cut it again?
I'd probably rather never cut my hair ever again. I think the mermaid look might suit me...

I tag everyone! I had so much fun doing this one and I'd love to see everyone else's answers xoxo

Joining The Tribe...

It's no secret that I'm a bit of a skin care junkie. I believe it's so important to really take care of your skin and I've found that the sooner you get yourself into an established routine the better. I honestly (or sadly lol) look forward to my night time ritual and treat my skin care routine almost like a mini pamper session that helps me remove not only my makeup but the stresses of the day. Anyone else with me on this one?

For the last 4 weeks I have been trying out something new, and what I think will be the latest skin care must-have.
Say hello to Tribe 517...

Tribe 517 has been lovingly created by Claire Caddick who is one of the UK’s most sought after and influential Spa Directors. Made from a potent mixture of natural ingredients and designed to be all you need for your skin, Tribe 517 really is the future of skin care.

Tribe 517 is a multi-purpose wonder product that can be used in a variety of different ways from removing your eye make up, to cleansing your whole face, as a daytime serum or even as a lip balm! It's the ultimate 'capsule wardrobe' for your skin.

The texture is creamy whilst having a balm like base from the Cocos nucifera oil (Coconut Oil) and Cera alba (Beeswax) amongst other fabulous natural ingredients. To cleanse my face I like to start by taking a 5p sized amount and rubbing it between my hands to warm the product and make it more pliable. I then massaged it in circular motions all over my face and neck, paying close attention to being gentle around my eyes and eyelashes. I then use a warm, damp muslin cloth to remove the remaining product. My skin is left feeling smooth, supple and nourished. It also feels moisturised without having a greasy residue.

Tribe 517 works by attracting any cosmetic pigments and oils away from the skin’s surface and lifting them off effortlessly. I have really sensitive eyes too and I admit I was a little hesitant about rubbing it around my eyes to remove my eye makeup, but I have to say I didn't experience any irritation at all.

After using Tribe 517 as a cleanser I really like to apply a small amount on my lips as a lip balm. I suffer from really dry lips from my office air con and this helps tremendously at easing the chapping and little flakes.

Lastly, I have been rubbing a small amount into my cuticles before I go to sleep. Tribe 517 has worked wonders at keeping these pesky bits of dry skin that can gather around my nails at bay.

I can officially say I am now part of the 'Tribe' and have been converted to this one-pot wonder. I will definitely be taking a pot away with me on holiday at the end of the month and I can guarantee my suit case will be ten times light than usual because of it.

Tribe 517 launches this September and you can get your hands on an exclusive pot here!

Thank you so much to the wonderful Claire for giving me the opportunity to experience a sample pot of Tribe 517. The sample I received was complimentary and for review purposes only, all opinions are my own.
