A Taste of Newbridge

Last month I was lucky enough to attend The Celtic Manor's Newbridge on Usk Blogger evening.
The evening was entitled 'A Taste of Newbridge' and had a foodie focus with an emphasis on local produce, and how to make the best of it in the last few weeks of summer.

The Newbridge on Usk is a 200 year old Inn settled in the hamlet of Tredunnock, about a 15 minute drive from The Celtic Manor Resort. It was formerly owned by presenter Chris Evans, and is a true gem of a hideaway. I can imagine nothing better than enjoying cocktails on the terrace in the Summer or a succulent Sunday roast by the open fires in the Winter.

We were greeted on arrival with Prosecco and Canapes before we embarked on a guided tour of the restaurant, rooms and kitchen garden. The restaurant grows most of their own vegetables and salad on site, plus with the addition of some ever growing pumpkins this Autumn which looked incredible!

After our tour we were shown through to the Newbridge's private dining room where Manager Ronan and head chef Adam had prepared a showcase of food and cocktail demonstrations for us.

Ronan introduced us to The Newbridge’s home made infused spirits including Newbridge Mojito Rum, Strawberry and Basil infused vodka and Fennel and Tarragon Gin (my personal favourite).
It's so refreshing to see local businesses making the most of fresh, seasonal ingredients and creating something superb with them.

Next, head chef Adam Whittle demonstrated for us how to make their infamous 'Garden to Plate' dessert including two different types of meringue and Strawberry Soup. This was essentially an Eton Mess but a hugely prettier and tastier version. The edible flowers really brought the wow factor!

Finally we were treated to an interactive cocktail making session with resident mixologist Matt where we were shown how to create their signature cocktails with a twist. I loved their 'Summer Fizz' which included the Fennel and Tarragon Gin topped up with a splash of Strawberry syrup and Prosecco.

The whole evening was fantastic, and the food and drink was out of this world. If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend a trip down to The Newbridge as soon as you can - You'll love it!
